Seeing Layers - Defining the Spaces and Layers of the Micro Residential Unit

In the common micro residence, the standard spatial sequence combines the living space and the entrance foyer into the first unit, which connects to the bedroom, bathroom, and changing room. This project redefines lifestyle by composing a small place for longer stay with the presence and absence of the interior space and the unit boundaries.

Guidance - An axial hallway passes through the entire interior space and reaches the greenery outdoors. As the interior hallway connects to light, outdoor landscape, and living units, this passage leads from darkness to rhythmic permeation of light, and then to a completely bright space.

Cover - The bedroom extends to the area where there is less natural lighting. A three-piece screen and a curtain create a private boundary. The three walls that are both present and absent defines the relationship between the sleeper’s line of sight and the body while creating a gap between the hallway and the interior space.

Opening - The double openings of the side room and the semi-outdoor greenery is the area of the residence with the most abundant variety in colors and lighting. We expanded the ceiling, floor, and walls outward into the exterior environment to allow the activities in the interior space and the natural variations of the environment to integrate.

Landscape - The elements of the stone cave and wood are piled with thin stone tablets to create a layered appearance. With a stone road, we attempt to create a landscape of a mountain cave in the classical garden style. Through the chiffon, the wood resembles a forest in a mist.
